DJI Announces Osmo Action 5 Pro
DJI has expanded its lineup of action cameras with the launch of the Osmo Action 5 Pro, a new model that offers over 13.5 stops of dynamic range and advanced AI features designed to appeal to filmmakers and adventurers alike. Priced at $349 for the base package, the camera introduces features typically found in more expensive models, setting a new standard for versatility and value in the action cam market.
The Osmo Action 5 Pro is equipped with a 1/1.3” CMOS sensor, featuring 4nm technology and a 2.4μm pixel size, providing enhanced image quality, especially in challenging lighting conditions. DJI claims the sensor’s increased dynamic range will allow users to capture vivid highlights and detailed shadows, giving the footage a more cinematic look.
In addition to improved dynamic range, the Action 5 Pro supports 10-bit D-Log M and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), enabling smoother color gradations in post-production. The camera is also capable of shooting 4K video at 60 frames per second, while its AI-powered SuperNight mode improves low-light performance by reducing noise and enhancing clarity.
DJI has also integrated AI-driven subject tracking and automatic centering, making it easier for users to keep the focus on moving subjects without needing a gimbal. The camera’s dual OLED touchscreens, which boast up to 1000 nits of peak brightness, are designed to make on-the-go shooting more intuitive, while tempered glass protection adds durability for rugged use.
The Osmo Action 5 Pro also comes with 47GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi 6.0 and USB 3.0 for faster file transfers, and a range of features including live streaming, timecode synchronization, and pre-recording options. A new live photo mode allows users to capture up to three seconds of footage, offering more flexibility when choosing the perfect still.
DJI says the camera’s 1950mAh Extreme Battery Plus can last up to four hours on a single charge, with a fast-charging option that provides up to two hours of additional use after just 15 minutes of charging. The battery is also optimized for colder conditions, making it a reliable option for outdoor winter activities.
Competitive Pricing
The Osmo Action 5 Pro is priced at $349 for the standard kit, which includes the camera, an Extreme Battery Plus, and a set of essential accessories like the protective frame and mounting bases. For those looking for more, DJI offers the Pro Adventure combo at $449, adding a quick-release adapter, battery case, and extension rod. The multi-function charging selfie stick is available separately for $99. All configurations are available for purchase immediately through DJI and authorized retailers.
With this launch, DJI seems poised to capture a bigger share of the action camera market, offering professional-grade features at a price point that undercuts many competitors.
